Entertainment & Sports Update: Mistrial in Roger Clemens Perjury Case

A mistrial was declared today in the Roger Clemens perjury trial over evidence revealed to the jury that would potentially prejudice the jury against the former all-star.    U.S. District Judge Reggie Walton seemed skeptical that jurors would be able to disregard evidence that prosecutors twice introduced and that he could never know what impact, if any, the evidence would have during jury deliberations.   Judge Walton was first angered by a video showed to the jury, in which Rep. Elijah Cummings, D-MD, referred to a certain conversation that former teammate Andy Pettitte had with his wife.  Judge Walton reasoned that “I think a first-year law student would know that you can’t bolster the credibility of one with witness with clearly inadmissible evidence. “  The second prejudice occurred when prosecutors disobeyed his orders and introduced that former New York Yankee teammates Chuck Knoblauch and Mike Stanton, both had used human growth hormone.   A hearing is scheduled for September 2, 2011 to determine whether to hold a new trial.
